TECHNO:
Techno is a form of electronic dance music that became prominent in Detroit, Michigan during the mid-1980s with influences from Chicago House, electro, New Wave, Funk and futuristic fiction themes that were prevalent and relative to modern culture during the end of the Cold War in industrial America at that time. Following the initial success of Detroit Techno as a musical culture — at the very least on a regional level — an expanded and related subset of genres in the 1990s emerged globally.

The term "techno", which derives from "technology", is often misused to refer to all forms of electronic dance music. Music journalists and fans of the genre, however, are generally more selective in their use of the term, being careful not to conflate it with related but distinct genres (i.e. house, trance), or with one of techno's many subgenres like Hardcore Techno.

DRUM AND BASS:
Drum and bass (commonly abbreviated to DnB or drum n bass) is a type of electronic dance music also known as jungle. Emerging in the early 1990s, the genre is characterised by fast tempo broken beat drums (generally between 160 & 180 beats per minute) with heavy, often intricate basslines. Today, drum and bass is still considered an underground musical style, but its currents of influence run throughout popular music and culture.

Drum and bass began as an offshoot of the United Kingdom breakbeat hardcore and rave scene of the late 1980s; and over the first decade of its existence there have been many permutations in its style, incorporating elements from dancehall, electro, funk, hiphop, house, jazz, metal, pop, reggae, rock, techno and trance.

HOUSE:
House music is a style of electronic dance music. The earliest forms of the genre originated in Chicago (United States) in the early to mid-1980s.

TRANCE:
Trance is a style of electronic dance music or slow ambient music that developed in the 1990s. Dance trance music is generally characterized by a tempo of between 124 and 148 bpm, featuring repeating melodic synthesizer phrases, and a musical form that builds up and down throughout a track, often crescendoing or featuring a breakdown. Sometimes vocals are also utilized. The style is arguably derived from a combination of largely electronic music and house. 'Trance' received its name from the repetitious morphing beats, and the throbbing melodies which would presumably put the listener into a trance-like state. As this music is almost always played in nightclubs at popular vacation spots and in inner cities, trance can be understood as a form of club music.

biografije:

shroombab

Shroombab started listening to drum'n'bass around 1996 when she discovered the sound of her heart during a trip to UK. At this time she was already writing for different music magazines (e.g."Breakbeat Magazine") when she was invited to start her own radio show ("Electronic Vibes") at Radio FRO back in 1998 on a Saturday night. Many guest DJs appeared on her show and their sound gave her the inspiration to start dj-ing herself. At the beginning she mixed in the studio of the Austrian non-profit Radio FRO, and a couple of months later she bought her first Technics and a proper mixer.

In spring '99 it all started, Shroombab had her first public performance at an open-air party. The rest is history: She got a residency at Donau, a large & very well-known Viennese bar where many local DJs started their career and which consists of a very nice architecture and central setting. More and more people listened to her sound and liked it, so she got her first bookings at some Viennese clubs like Kunstwerk and Subzero, and she got invited for many local radio shows @ Radio Orange and national radio shows at FM4. Shroombab also made the 2nd place at a "DJ Contest" in 1999. Apart from that, she started writing party reviews for Austria's largest event-webpage and reviewing drum'n'bass-records for the "Breakbeat magazine".

In 2000 Shroombab met MC Terra and together they founded the Junglistic Sistaz, a female Drum'n'Bass-collective. Their crew soon became very popular, and many club promoters invited the girls to play. Together with MC Terra, she started to run the club night "BASS LAND" which established itself as a fixed institution in the scene - many local and international DJs played at their Friday night sessions that are still going on irregularly now. Apart from numerous national bookings to the best and most established clubs all over Austria alongside established acts like DILLINJA, DOM&ROLAND, DJ STORM, BAD COMPANY, SKYNET, MAKAI, FAITH IN CHAOS, MICKEY FINN, RASCAL & KLONE, ALLEY CAT, DJ SPICE, COUNTER STRIKE, D.KAY, ILL.SKILLZ, MC JENNA G, MC RAGE, or mostly as a headliner herself, Shroombab also got a growing number of international bookings in Switzerland, Germany and Hungary in 2001; in UK, Germany, Slovenia, Netherlands and Czechia in 2002; Switzerland, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czechia, UK, Hungary, Italy and South Africa in 2003; Russia, France, Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland etc. in 2004. In November 2003 she attended the "Red Bull Music Academy" in Cape Town (SA), and was chosen as a participant from more than 2000 entries. Nowadays, Shroombab is a truly international dj, playing abroad nearly every weekend, and she's also famous for her online mixes that are currently downloaded by more than 3500 people on a monthly basis.

Additionally to DJ-ing, Shroombab always had a big interest in music production, and it was also back in 2000 when she started producing. Since this time period she collaborated with Mr. Polarity from Germany, Tomkin from Trickdisc Recordings and since 2003 she also works on solo tunes. Shroombab & Polarity already finished a numerous amount of tracks and in March 2002 - after perfecting their production skills - they founded the drum'n'bass-label "High Tension Recordings" and put out their first release "Stronghold/Rolling Thunder". It received a very good press. Meanwhile their tunes get dropped into sets by Aphrodite, Mickey Finn, L Double, Andy C, Nicky Blackmarket and many more big name DJs. Some of their current stuff got signed to different international and well-established labels such as Urban Takeover (UK), Urbadon Rec. (USA), Protogen (GER), Giana Brotherz (GER), Trickdisc (A), Thermal (USA), Phunk Fiction (GER) etc. So watch out for their names popping up in 2004!

Shroombab is now known for spinning the freshest drum'n'bass with dancefloor-orientated rhythms, wicked basslines, melodic hardness and atmospheric breakdowns. Never expect exclusively a "greatest hits" selection, because she is spinning a lot of more diverse nasty breakz with some complex beatz in it. Her mixing is fast, and tight. Getting productions and promo-vinyl from Austrian and international artists, she has established herself as one of Austria's most booked drum'n'bass djs, and definitely as Austria's first lady of drum&bass. Her current favorite labels are Human, Charge, Intercom, Subtitles, Metalheadz, Cargo, Virus, M.A.S.H., Soul:R etc.

Apart from establishing herself as international dj & producer, she also devoted her love for drum&bass to another project: She launched the website www.junglistic-sistaz.com as an international data:base for female junglists with a daily growing number of female artists. Meanwhile five Junglistic Sistaz events took place internationally at some well-established clubs in Austria, Switzerland, Germany and UK. Apart from that, Shroombab launched Junglistic Sistaz Radio, first at dnbradio.net, now at bassdrive.com that currently represents DJs from 15 different countries.

Shroombab also continues to work on new productions and does not intend to stop DJ-ing at all. So you better keep an eye and ear on her!
